Veneers
Veneers
are layers of either porcelain/ceramic or composite resin which can be
used to restore front teeth. They can be used to close gaps between
front teeth, can also mask discoloured teeth and align mildly crooked
teeth. This can be done in a single sitting with the help of composite
veneers or in 2 sittings with the help of ceramic veneers. These are then
bonded to the prepared tooth structure.
Composite veneers
Can be
done in a single sitting. They are done using composite resins. They
require more maintenance and care then porcelain veneers. Can discolour
in case of heavy tea, coffee drinkers and smokers.

Procedure:
A very
thin layer of enamel usually 0.5mm is removed. Anaesthsia is usually not
required as it is a painless procedure. The tooth is then conditioned
and a tooth coloured composite resin is then applied on this tooth and
shaped as per the requirement. The resin is then set chair side and
shaped and polished to give a natural feel and shape.
Ceramic veneers
Porcelain
veneers can be made from 2 kinds of ceramic Empress2 or Procera. These
give a more natural feel and esthetics is superior. They are superior in
strength as compared to composite resins low on maintenance and do not
discolour.
Needs 2
sittings.

Procedure:
A thin
layer of enamel is removed from the front surface of the teeth which are
to receive veneers. An impression is taken and sent to the lab where
they are fabricated. In the meantime temporary composite veneers are
placed and polished. It takes about 4-5 days for fabricating the
veneers.
In the 2nd sitting the temporary veneers are removed and the final veneers checked
in for colour, size, fit and comfort. Once patient is satisfied they are
then bonded in with resin cement.
